Deborah works in for the National Autistic Society in their NE Autism Resource Centre which is situated within an autism specific school in Newcastle Upon Tyne. She offers a wide range of support to local families including a parent group and provides training to both parents and professionals on a wide range of topics. She is a trained Earlybird, Earlybird Plus and Healthy Minds Licensed User and delivers a wide range of training across the North East of England. Deborah managed the team which were successfully appointed as the NE Autism Training Hub to deliver training to education professionals in the region on behalf of the Autism Education Trust. In addition to her role as Resource Centre Manager, Deborah also works into a NHS second opinion ASD service as the Specialist ASD Parent Advisor providing post diagnostic support to families following an assessment and diagnosis of an autism spectrum disorder. Deborah also works closely alongside researchers at Newcastle University and is involved in various research projects around autism involving autistic adults, parents and carers and families of autistic children She has worked for the NAS for 10 years and has run the Great North Run five times for the charity. She enjoys running with her local running club and volunteers for the British Red Cross. Deborah is also a Parent Governor for her local secondary school responsible for SEN and Welfare and Support. | |
