About the event
Autism & Mental Health - online conference
The coronavirus pandemic has brought significant new challenges. Change to routines, uncertainty and social isolation are just some of the ways the pandemic has affected life. While the whole population is dealing with these issues, National Autistic Society research suggests that the pandemic has had a disproportionate and often devastating impact on autistic people and their families and for some was made worse by the withdrawal of support from social care, education and mental health services.
Now, more than ever, we need to focus on the mental health of autistic people. Mental health issues such as depression and anxiety affect far too many autistic children and adults. Issues are often caused by a lack of understanding around autism, and worsened by a lack of appropriate support. Without support, some autistic people reach crisis point, with a devastating number wrongly placed long-term in unsuitable hospital settings.
Our popular one-day conference is back, this time available to live stream and watch on demand. We will explore the impact of coronavirus on the mental health of autistic people. We will also address crucial issues around depression, anxiety, sleep, and more. We will hear important updates and accounts from multiple perspectives. There will, as always, be an opportunity to put your questions to our expert speakers. Further details to be announced.
