Orientation day and site visit:
A one-day site visit to Ardenleigh medium secure hospital for overseas delegates

For delegates unfamiliar with the UK health and social care system, and in particular those services aimed at supporting people with a learning disability who may become involved with the criminal justice system, we are offering the opportunity to address this in a specially designed Orientation Day on Tuesday 10 April 2018.
The programme will include a mixture of informative presentations, together with a site visit to a modern clinical service. The day will culminate in an evening dinner at a local historical venue.
Although this pre-conference day is targeted at overseas delegates, attendees from the UK are also welcome to take part.
Ardenleigh medium secure hospital provides inpatient mental health care and education for young people. Situated in Birmingham, Ardenleigh is one of only six medium secure inpatient units for young people in England and are part of a national network commissioned by NHS England.
Typically, all young people who are admitted have complex mental health difficulties including multiple co-morbid conditions. Ardenleigh is able to offer these young people specialist care and education, both on an individual and group level, along with comprehensive assessment and treatment from a multidisciplinary team.
The orientation day will include a visit to this secure facility where resident clinicians will give details of the services being offered and provide anonymised clinic examples of the challenges presented by patients of the service. Delegates will be able to tour the facilities before coming together again for discussion and questions.
Delegates will be returned to their hotels in the late afternoon before being collected in the early evening and taken to a local historical venue, providing the opportunity for socialising with other delegates whilst enjoying a 3-course meal.
